The Arc, Oneida Lewis Chapter is a human service organization that has been a leader in services for people with development disabilities since 1954. The Agency was founded by a group of parents who envisioned a rich, full life for their children with disabilities inclusive in the community. Today, The Arc is one of 55 chapters of the state wide NYSARC, Inc. The ARC mission is to enable persons with disabilities and their families to achieve their potential through self - determined goals in partnership with the Agency.
The ARC provided a full spectrum of educational, vocational, residential, family support, service coordination, guardianship, respite care, recreational rehabilitation, day habilitation, clinical , senior and children's services to people with developmental disabilities and their families.
The ARc continues to provide services for families including programs such as Social Connections, Sensory Swim, and Splish Splash, College Works, and teen outreach Peer Socialization Program (TOPS).

Children's Services - The Arc offers a wide range of services for children in the areas of socialization, recreation and therapy. Support, education and respite are also offered for parents and caregivers .Groups for children with special needs are available, focusing on fun, friendship and learning. Evaluation, treatment and therapeutic play groups for children, birth to 18 years of age, with developmental and physical disabilities and neurological disorders are available. The Arc provides Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech therapy and Special Education services.

Community and Family Services - The Community and Family Services Division of The Arc deals with the provision of a variety of services to people who live with their families and independently in the community. The role of the division has changed frequently over the years and will probably continue to do so as it is designed to accommodate the needs of the families and individuals that are living with disabilities.
The CFS division has several categories of service. These programs all share the goal of offering options to people to live as full a life as possible. The staff of the division are committed to being as flexible as possible to allow people to achieve their objectives.

Day Services - The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter, NYSARC offers several group day habilitation program options throughout Oneida and Lewis counties. While each program operates under the same guidelines and regulations, each offers unique features. Programs vary in size, ranging from 3 individuals up to 50, as well as vary in focus of activities and location. The Arc offers programs located within the city of Utica, Rome, Knoxboro and Turin. These programs are designed to meet the wants and desires of individuals while acquiring, retaining and improving their skills to assist them to be as independent as possible in community settings.

Employment Services- The Arc’s Employment Services provides Job Placement Services to the local business community and to individual with disabilities, matching employer needs with employee skills and abilities. Employment Services places individuals into integrated community-based work, where they earn at least minimum wage, working fifteen to forty hours per week.
Employment Services include the use of a Rehabilitation Training Specialist, or job coach. The RTS screens available jobs, then matches the individual’s abilities to the job requirements. Once a match is made, the RTS provides intensive training on the job site. After the training is completed, the Senior Job Coaches follow up with support services for as long as the individual is employed, to insure that job performance continues to meet the employer’s expectations.
The Arc’s Employment Services began in 1986 and is now well-developed and very successful in providing to persons with disabilities, an array of supports to link them to the working world.
These programs provide individualized job placement with job coaching and ongoing follow-up to individuals with disabilities.

Residential Services - Offers the greatest level of independence possible in comfortable, healthy, individualized and home-like environments. While “home” can take many forms, The Arc offers the greatest level of independence possible in comfortable, healthy, individualized and home-like environments. As the first private sector residential provider in Oneida County, the Agency has more than 25 years experience in the field. Residential options reflect a vast range of supports and focus on the abilities of the people we serve. With over 34 Individualized Residential Alternatives throughout Oneida and Lewis counties, Arc homes can be found in quiet, rural settings or bustling city neighborhoods; in small quaint villages or sprawling suburbs. Living opportunities include homes ranging in size from two-person to ten-person. The agency has a commitment to provide smaller residences that blend into neighborhoods. The majority of residences are for three to six people.

Vocational Services - Our vocational program provides paid employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities. Our vocational services consist of well developed and highly successful programs which provide people with disabilities an array of supports to link them to the working world. Matching skills and talents and specialized training to these options, The Arc enables people with disabilities to find employment suitable to them in the community or our own facilities.
