Tales N' Tunes play group
FamilyThe Dolgeville-Manheim Public Library welcomes you to: The “Toddler Tales ‘N Tunes” program for ages birth to 5 years old, which takes place on Fridays. We will follow the Dolgeville Central School (DCS) schedule when children are in attendance. We will not meet when DCS is closed or when there is a Superintendent’s Conference Day. (We will however, meet when there are morning half-days and also when there is a 1- or 2-hour delay.) Parents/Guardians/Adults are welcome to use the room/toys when we aren’t there (and no one else is using it) as long as they pick up when they leave. Our clientele has been mostly children ages three and younger, so we are focusing on socialization, a very easy craft activity (like playdough) with the last 15 minutes on snack, stories, songs, movement, and trying to stretch attention spans. We will be assisted by Joann Zilkowski, the DCS R4K (Ready for Kindergarten navigator) and Sarah Williams-Herringshaw, Connected Community Schools coordinator. It is free and open to the public, No registration needed, but we do ask you to stop by the circulation desk before going upstairs, to check in there first.
Kids' Book Club
FamilyJoin us as we discuss kid-chosen books, chapter by chapter. When we finish a book we vote on the next one so that you will have a chance to read about something you like and would like your friends to read as well. We are meeting at this time because we don't want to create conflicts with school sports. We have in the past met on Thursdays at 3:30 to 4:30pm, so eventually the time may change, but you will have lots of heads up before that happens. Please keep in mind that we follow the school schedule for this program, so if there is no school on a particular Thursday, we will not be meeting that day. We are currently reading "Matilda" by Roald Dahl.
Adirondack Meditation
CommunityMeditation practice has been shown to reduce stress, improve immune function, increase positive emotions and attentive abilities, and deepen the qualities of empathy, inner calm and patience. The practice helps practitioners see into their deepest nature, and in so doing, become freer from suffering and able to feel gratitude for what each day brings. Some of the Topics included: How to work with a “chattering mind;” learning to befriend thoughts and feelings, rather than being pulled around by them. How to work with the breath to focus one’s attention and deepen relaxation. How to work with difficult emotions - fear, anger, sadness, etc. This program is ongoing, and takes place Wednesday mornings from 9:45-11:00 am. The cost is free. No prior registration required. For more information, please call the library at (315) 429-3421.
Chair Yoga
CommunityJoin us for gentle, supported movement with local instructor Marchell Scarano. Please note the time change. We now meet from 3:30-4:30pm. All abilities and experience levels are welcome. Classes are free and open to the public. Class size is limited please call 315-429-3421 to register.
GED Education Class
FamilyDolgeville-Manheim Library invites you to: General Adult Education classes; GED classes to earn your General Education Diploma. We at the Library understand that “things happen” and “life gets in the way” of some of our plans, even while in High School. So, if this sounds like you, and you would like to take advantage of this FREE program made available to us through Herkimer County BOCES, please call us at (315)429-3421 and we will be able to give you information of how to get started. The Class takes place on Thursdays, and there are various time slots available. The program follows the attendance schedule of the public schools, so if there is no regular school on that Thursday then there is no GED class held that day.

Story Time at the Old Forge Library
FamilyThe Old Forge Library welcomes little ones and their families to six Fall Story Time sessions, on Fridays from October 2 through November 6, from 10:15 -11 am. These fun-filled sessions are created especially for children ages 3 to 6, and each 45-minute Story Time includes stories, games, crafts, creative play, songs, and activities that spark imagination and encourage learning. Younger children are welcome, too, though toddlers need to have an adult with them. Story Time has been a beloved tradition at the Old Forge Library for many decades. It's a special part of early childhood for many in the community and continues to bring families together through a love of reading and play. To help with planning, registration is encouraged. The library usually prepares for a few extra participants and will always find a way to welcome walk-ins. To register, call 315-369-6008 or email oldforge@midyork.org.
Greif Circle with Hospice and Palliative Care
CommunityWalk and Talk Fall 2026
FamilyAll are invited to "Walk and Talk" with friends and neighbors each Tuesday starting September 8th at 1:30 pm. The group will meet in the joint Old Forge Library and Niccolls Church parking lot at 220 Crosby Blvd. Niccolls Nurses conceived the idea to provide socialization and movement to those interested, and the library wanted in on the action. Controlling blood pressure, lowering risk of chronic disease, maintaining healthy weight, fighting cancer, improving heart health, enhancing mental health, boosting mood, reducing stress, strengthening bones and being happier because you are socializing with fun people are some of the many health benefits. Walk and Talk Tuesdays will continue through October 27. There will be a group leader on hand and distance and pace will be adjusted to be comfortable for each walker.
Wednesday Night Craft Night: Felt Leaf Wreath
FamilyThe Old Forge Library, located at 220 Crosby Blvd., is bringing back its Wednesday Night Crafts and this season, the goal is about much more than making something cute to take home. These free craft get-togethers are all about having fun, making things, and enjoying the company along the way. There’s no pressure for every project to come out looking exactly the same, and nobody has to be a professional crafter. Some people may follow the idea exactly, others may put their own spin on it, and plenty of creative problem-solving (and helping each other!) is encouraged. Think of it as a social night at the library with a craft happening in the middle. Friends, families, neighbors, seniors, and crafters of all experience levels are invited to pull up a chair, try something new, chat, laugh, lend a hand, and maybe discover a hidden crafting talent. Each evening begins at 5 p.m. and offers a relaxed, welcoming chance to get together and enjoy a little seasonal creativity. Linking Lives Through Reading
FamilyFor decades, Linking Lives Through Reading has brought kids and caring adults together at the Old Forge Library for something simple and powerful: reading together. Made possible through the generous support of the Leola Tobin Memorial Fund, this multigenerational program pairs first-, second-, and third-grade students with adult volunteers, or “book buddies,” for an hour of reading, conversation, activities, snacks, and plenty of encouragement. The goal isn’t just to get through a book. It’s about helping kids feel comfortable with reading, build confidence, connect with another member of the community, and have fun along the way. Each session includes shared reading, learning activities, coloring, snacks, and reading rewards. This fall, Linking Lives Through Reading will meet for six Thursdays, October 1 through November 5, from 2:15 to 3:15 pm. Six additional sessions will be offered in the spring. The walk is part of it! The Town of Webb Schools does not provide transportation to the library for this program. Instead, library volunteers and community members are welcome to join the walk from school to the library. Anyone who would like to help walk the participating students from school to the library is invited to join the group. It’s a simple way to be part of the program and another opportunity for kids and community members to connect. Parents and caregivers should plan to pick up their children at the library at 3:15 pm. Become a book buddy. Linking Lives Through Reading is always looking for more adult volunteers. No teaching experience is needed. Book buddies simply need to be willing to spend an hour reading, listening, encouraging, talking, and sharing a little time with a child. A favorite book, a good conversation, and an hour of attention can make a real difference. To register a child, become an adult book buddy, or join the walk from school to the library, call the Old Forge Library at 315-369-6008 or email oldforge@midyork.org.

Greif Circle with Hospice and Palliative Care
CommunitySocial Security Information Program
FamilyProgram Objective: Provide individuals between the ages of 55 and 70 with a thorough overview of critical factors to assess before claiming Social Security benefits, empowering them to make informed and strategic decisions. Social Security Challenges: Given recent news reports surrounding an uncertain future for Social Security, the decreasing availability of corporate pension plans, increased life expectancies, rising divorce rates, and a growing elderly population, retirees face the significant risk of exhausting their savings if they rely solely on these government benefits. Claiming Social Security benefits has become more complex due to a rapidly changing retirement landscape. Today, retirees have two choices; they need to plan carefully, or risk losing significant future benefits. Since there is no one-size-fits-all approach for claiming Social Security benefits, individuals frequently encounter difficulties interpreting program rules and assessing the long-term financial impact of their choices. Many previously effective strategies are now outdated, underscoring the importance of evaluating overall retirement income needs rather than focusing strictly on program-specific guidelines. FAQs addressed: ? When is the appropriate time to begin collecting Social Security? ? What options exist to support the continued solvency of Social Security? ? Is it more important to focus on Social Security regulations or a cash flow strategy? ? Is coordination with a spouse advisable before claiming benefits? ? Is seeking professional assistance recommended when claiming benefits? Background: This program has been made possible as a public service by Retirement Solutions, LLC, a financial education company. Disclaimer: This program is for informational purposes only and is not a sales seminar nor is it intended as a substitute for tax, legal and/or financial guidance. Individual claiming strategies and personalized advice will not be provided. This program is not endorsed or a
Seasonal Wellness: Healing with the Rhthyms of Nature
FamilyWhat can a root tell us about the season, the soil, and even our own wellbeing? Herbalist Jessica Maureen Hinsdill returns to the Old Forge Library on Tuesday, September 8, at 6 pm for the next installment of Seasonal Wellness: Healing with the Rhythms of Nature. This fall session, "Nourishing and Grounding Roots", takes a closer look at the roots that plants store underground as summer fades and autumn arrives. Fall is root-harvesting season, and the evening will explore how roots are used in herbal traditions, what makes them nourishing, and why this time of year is so closely connected with slowing down, gathering energy, and preparing for winter. The program will be hands-on and practical, with plenty of opportunity to learn about the plants themselves. A tasting of herbal teas made from the roots featured in the program will round out the evening. Hinsdill is a Boonville-based herbalist and founder of Wild Soulstice LLC. She has spent years teaching people about the properties and uses of plants through herbal education, consultations, plant walks, and other programs. She also leads the Old Forge Library’s popular herbal study group. The program is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Advance registration is strongly recommended. Register by calling the library at 315-369-6008 or emailing oldforge@midyork.org
